Robben Island Museum has announced that it will be introducing new two-tier pricing for its tour of the famous landmark that will make it cheaper for South Africans to visit than international tourists.
The new pricing structure will take effect on 1 June. Foreign tourists will pay about R170 more for a ticket for the Robben Island tour, which comprises of a ferry return trip, transport on the island, a guided island tour, and a guided prison tour by an ex-political-prisoner.

Tickets can be bought at Robben Island Museum, Nelson Mandela Gateway, V&A waterfront or through Webtickets. The new pricing structure is as follows:
– R550 ($40 | €35) for non-South African adults and R300 ($15 | €15) for non-South African children aged two to 18 years.
– R380 for South African adults and R200 for South African children aged two to 18 years.
In a press statement, Robben Island Museum spokesperson Morongoa Ramaboa said, ‘Preserving Robben Island as a world-class heritage site requires a lot of efforts to balance the conservation of the tangible heritage elements with the mission of increasing local access to the Island.’
