Africa’s busiest airport, O.R. Tambo International Airport, is experiencing an increase in passenger numbers as international travel resumes once again.
To deal with the influx, the airport has opened the upper roadway for passenger drop-offs.
‘We are pleased to announce a further step to enhancing access to O. R. Tambo International Airport. With passenger numbers increasing rapidly in the past week or so, we are pleased to inform all South Africans that the upper frontage road has been opened from 6am on Sunday 4 October,’ said the airport’s official Facebook page.

The upper roadway is only open for drop-offs and selected terminal entrances will be open on the upper level of the airport. Passengers are to look for branded banners outside of the selected entrances that have been reopened.
‘Ekurhuleni Metro Police will continue to control access to the upper frontage road. Driver-only vehicles will not be allowed through. Pick-ups are not permitted on the upper frontage road. Pick-ups continue on any of the three levels of Parkade 2 South where the first 30 minutes is free,’ the post concluded.
