Cabinet made the recent announcement on Thursday 19 August, that coronavirus vaccines will be made available to all those aged 18 and over in South Africa from Friday 20 August.

South Africa is the most affected African country to be hit by the pandemic and vaccinations will come as a relief for many travellers, with many countries only allowing entry for vaccinated visitors.

All those aged 18 years and older are invited to visit their nearest site with identification to be vaccinated, no pre-registration is required.
With only 10% of the country vaccinated at the end of last week, the Department of Health will have to vaccinate a further 29 million people will to reach its target of a 70% inoculation amongst the adult population.

As of 18 August, South Africa had a total of 158 584 active coronavirus cases. Cabinet has further approved keeping the country on adjusted level 3 lockdown.
