A new five-star hotel situated between Joburg’s CBD and Sandton which overlooks the Houghton Golf Course has opened this week.
The hotel cost R880m (€55m) to build and boasts a staircase that looks like it could feature as one of the luxurious haunts in a James Bond movie.
According to the Tourism Update, The Houghton ‘offers seven luxury penthouses, four presidential suites, two junior suites, eight executive king rooms, and 46 king rooms. All rooms have Apple and cable TV, extended breakfast, complimentary WiFi and newspapers, with 24-hour in-room dining.’
There’s also an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, an 8km running track and the unusual addition of an onsite medical centre. To provide for medical tourists, the Medical Suites provide services by a plastic surgeon, physiotherapist and GP and has its own pharmacy.
Other facilities at The Houghton include a business and day lounge, four private dining rooms, a whisky lounge, and the international Nova deli. There is also a FitBar gym, four heated pools and an Amani Spa with nine treatment rooms.
While the hotel is surrounded by golfing greens and offers a tranquil space for visitors to unwind in, it is just 30 minutes away from OR Tambo International Airport and close to both Johannesburg’s CBD and Sandton.
