Broll Property Group has secured the contract to manage Robben Island. The company boasts a legacy of excellence since 1975.
According to Cape Town Etc, Broll’s contract has been much anticipated considering the UNESCO World Heritage Site’s current state of disrepair.
‘This contract is more than a business opportunity; it’s a responsibility to preserve and protect a vital part of South Africa’s heritage,’ said Mantsi Moiloa, public sector group head at Broll Property Group.
In a statement, Chief Executive Officer, Malcolm Horne, highlighted the importance of preserving South Africa’s cultural heritage.
‘As guardians of heritage, we ensure that Robben Island will remain a beacon of history and culture for future generations.’
Over and above preserving the island’s historic integrity, the company also noted water conservation as a significant concern. Thus, innovative water saving methods will be introduced to promote sustainability and reduce usage.
As reported by TravelNews, Broll also aims to foster community connectedness. This will take place by bringing cultural vibrancy to the site through public events and educational programmes.
The iconic Robben Island is renowned for being the site where former struggle icon, Nelson Mandela, was imprisoned. The island, which is approximately 3.3 km in length and 1.9km in width, is only accessible by sea.
