The German carrier will operate three weekly flights on this route year-round, using an Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
BusinessTech reports that the plane will offer business, premium economy, and economy class seating options.
This new route adds to Lufthansa’s existing direct flight between Johannesburg and Frankfurt.
According to MSN, this isn’t Lufthansa’s first time operating the Johannesburg-Munich route. The airline previously flew this route almost two decades ago but suspended it in 2005. The reintroduction was initially planned for June 2024 but was then moved up to accommodate other new routes, reports the publication.
Lufthansa is also introducing a seasonal direct flight between Cape Town and Munich, starting in November.
BusinessTech notes that this Cape Town service will only operate during the Southern Hemisphere’s summer months due to current demand.
