South Africa’s passport has been ranked as the third most powerful in Africa. This is as per the latest Passport Index by Henley & Partners.
According to IOL, the Index is based on exclusive data from the largest travel database known as International Air Transport Authority (IATA).
It includes 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations.
The Seychelles and Mauritius were listed as destinations with the top two most powerful passports on the African continent, with South Africa occupying the third spot.
The ranking is based on the number of destinations which passport holders can access without a visa. The South African passport currently grants visa-free access to a total of 106 destinations.

On a global scale, Singapore has the most powerful of all passports. It allows passport holders to access 195 destinations visa-free. South Africa occupies the 47th spot globally as far as passport power is concerned.
