The South African passport has moved up one spot on the Henley & Partners Passport Index.
However, South Africans can now only travel 104 destinations without requiring a visa.

As reported by The South African, the Henley Passport Index is an authoritative ranking of all passports according to the number of destinations which their passport holders can travel to visa-free.

In the most recent Index, South Africa’s passport has moved up to number 47 (it was previously at 48) on the list of 199 passports.
Unfortunately, the number of destinations which South Africans can travel to visa-free has dropped from 106 to 104.
The two destinations which no longer allow visa-free travel for South Africans are Pakistan and Mauritania.
Both countries have since moved to an e-visa system for SA tourists.
