South African Airways (SAA) has announced the appointment of Professor John Lamola as group chief executive officer. This follows approval by Transport Minister Barbara Creecy.

According to IOL, this decision comes despite ongoing allegations of political interference as far as the appointment process is concerned.

As reported by EWN, Lamola has served as the airline’s interim CEO since 2022.

SAA shared that during his tenure in the acting position, Lamola played a key role in SAA’s turnaround.
Under his leadership, the airline elevated to profit-making status, experiencing its first profitable year since 2012.
The board has welcomed his appointment.
