South African Airways (SAA) has introduced new routes to cater to the busy festive season. The airline launched flights to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, Windhoek in Namibia, as well as a flight to Gqeberha from OR Tambo International Airport.
Flights to Windhoek will begin on 8 December 2022, with two flights scheduled per day for seven days a week. The addition of Victoria Falls to SAA’s growing routes will commence on Wednesday, 14 December 2022. Flights will be available six days a week, excluding Saturdays with departures from Johannesburg at 10:15, with the estimated arrival at Victoria Falls International Airport being at 12:25.
Return flights will leave Victoria Falls at 13:10 each afternoon arriving in Johannesburg at 14:50.
For the domestic traveller, SAA added an option to fly to Gqeberha over the holidays with flights scheduled as of Monday, 12 December 2022. The airline will offer three return flights daily to the Eastern Cape Province.
SAA will operate an Airbus A320 aircraft on this route. Limited seats are available, access here for all flight schedules and best fares.
To accommodate customers ahead of the festive season, SAA has increased frequencies to Harare in Zimbabwe from seven to 10 flights a week and Mauritius from four times a week to seven times a week.
SAA’s Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer, Professor John Lamola says, ‘In pursuit of this drive to please our customers, we are relentlessly working on expanding the network of destinations we serve, to enhance seamless travel connectivity. Our new routes along with increased frequencies to our regional destinations, represent the second phase of our post-Covid restart operations.’

All prices are for a round trip.
- Prices begin at R2 168 for an economy ticket with business class marked at R5 277.
- Prices begin at R2 150 for an economy ticket with business class marked at R4 399.
- Ticket prices for Gqeberah haven’t been released by the time of publication.
