Cameron Pearce, a field guide at the Ongava Game Reserve near Etosha National Park in Namibia, has been named the Safari Guide of the Year by the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA).
Guides with a high level of FGASA qualifications are selected to take part in a six-day event, which this year took place at the Southern African Wildlife College near Hoedspruit.
The event signifies the contribution made by safari guides to the tourism industry in Southern Africa and gives them the chance to showcase their skills to the event judges.
The participants compete in various categories such as guided walks, birding, game drives, photographic safaris, tracking and rifle handling.
Born in Johannesburg, Cameron has an impressive list of qualifications that include professional field guide, professional trails guide, marine guide, culture guide and SKS National Birding among others.
