If working with South Africa’s wildlife has been a desire of yours, SANCCOB recently opened applications for three internship programmes. The programs include a seabird rehabilitation, a penguin nursery internship and a seabird chick rearing internship.
The former programmes run for 3-6 months and the latter is a 6 month programme only.
‘Our seabird internships are structured, mentored training programmes with a strong focus on skills development – suitable for returning volunteers, university students, graduates, post graduates, employees and volunteers in the fields of animal science, husbandry, care and welfare related fields. Previous experience working with birds is desirable though not essential,’ said SANCCOB on their website.
SANCCOB says that any applicant that has completed the international volunteer programme in the past is eligible for a 50% discount on the internship.
‘Upon acceptance into the programme, all interns are required to pay a refundable R2 000 fee to secure their place. This is refunded in South African Rands after successful completion of the programme.’
