SANParks shared that the selection process for the rangers was both rigorous and demanding. It involved extensive mental and physical evaluations.

furthermore, it was followed by para-military training to equip them for specialized operations that address a wide range of threats to the Park.

Currently, the team comprises special operators, a canine unit trained in apprehension, detection, and man-tracking, as well as aerial and vessel support.

This diverse skillset allows the unit to effectively combat the various criminal activities that threaten both environmental conservation and visitor safety.

Since its establishment in December 2021, the SEAM team has made significant strides, resulting in the arrest of 116 individuals.

Their operational achievements include 88 helicopter deployments, 1,003 foot patrols, and 400 K9 deployments, showcasing their commitment to safeguarding Table Mountain National Park. The 24 graduates will add to the complement of 16 members, more than doubling their capacity.

Additionally, the deployment of SEAM team rangers is guided by intelligence and encompasses a range of terrestrial and marine operations, resulting in the apprehension of numerous suspects. They conduct specialized operations aimed at addressing issues such as robbery, theft, poaching, and the illegal harvesting of plant species.

This initiative has been made possible through collaborations with external partners, including the SANParks Honorary Rangers, the Table Mountain Fund, and the Foundation for a Sustainable Future.

SANParks further shared its commitment to nurturing these relationships. The organization expressed that they ensure sustainable and ongoing support for the enhancement of efforts to protect our natural resources. This is beneficial for both current and future generations.
