With tourists on the verge of flocking to the shores of South Africa to catch the heat the month of December usually brings, SANParks plans to make a few upgrades and adjustments.
IOL has reported that park changes will be implemented throughout South Africa to ensure local and international travellers can easily explore this country’s majestic natural spaces. These measures and campaigns include:
- Routine safety patrols
- Fire safety awareness initiatives
- Aerial support for emergencies
- Water-saving and safety initiatives
Beyond safety and security measures, SANParks has also stated that many park locations throughout South Africa will also receive upgraded infrastructures that might be outdated.
Kruger National Park has already made several updates in preparation for the festive season, and SANParks has mentioned Table Mountain National Park is next on the agenda:
“SANParks also announced the introduction of the Table Mountain National Park Volunteer Safety Services (VSS) which is a partnership with interested and affected civil society organisations to improve response to crime.
It will operate as a coordinated, collaborative and accountable mechanism that ensures civil society’s contributions are embedded in the national park’s overall safety and security strategy and approach.”
Table Mountain National Park has also stated that 25 recruits will be vetted and added to the SEAM team (which stands for Sea, Mountain, Air) to ensure the environment’s safety at this iconic landmark. R1.94 million has been pledged for the practical training of these recruits.
