Barlocco, a 25-acre island located in Fleet Bay, approximately 14.5 km away from Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway, is up for sale for offers over £150,000 (R 3.4 million).
According to Galbraith, the real estate firm handling the sale, Barlocco offers “outstanding views” and is home to one of the largest seabird colonies in the area. The island has a pebble beach where visitors can anchor a boat or access it on foot during low tide. Although there are no buildings on the island, it features a flood pond that provides water for livestock and wildlife during winter.
Galbraith described the sale as a “rare opportunity” for someone to own their own island, which has attracted “strong demand” both in the UK and overseas for Scottish islands they had sold in the past. A spokesperson from the company also highlighted the island’s peaceful atmosphere, which offers a respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
‘There’s still a very romantic sentiment attached to owning your very own Scottish private island, where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy some peace and tranquillity in the most beautiful scenery around,’ they said.
While there are currently no buildings on the island and no planning consent or applications in place, potential buyers are advised to discuss opportunities for construction with the local planning authority.
