The South African Weather Service has warned of severe localised thundershowers and flooding throughout parts of South Africa this week. Provinces expected to be affected are Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumulanga, eastern parts of the Free State, North West, and KwaZulu-Natal.
A yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms has been issued for the provinces mentioned above. Localised flooding, hail and lightning damage are expected, reports News24.
Yellow level 2 warning means that there’s a medium likelihood of minor impact.
‘Orange level 5 warning for severe thunderstorms, resulting in flooding of roads, settlements, and low-lying areas as well as the closure of bridges and roads’ has been issued for Mpumalanga highveld. Expected hail damage as well as excessive lightning which could cause danger to life and damage to property.’
Orange level 5 warning means that there is a high likelihood of significant impact.
The conditions in the interior of the Northern Cape, west of North West, and northern parts of the Free State are ‘favourable for the development of veld fires,’ warns News24.
