As of Monday, 9 January, Llandudno beach has been closed due to a sewer leak.
The City of Cape Town issued a statement saying that ‘there was an overflow from a sewer pump station after an ultrasonic level sensor became faulty due to a power surge caused by loadshedding.’
The sensor has since been replaced and City Health is taking daily water samples for quality testing. They will continue testing ‘until such a time as the levels are within the minimum requirement for recreational activities as determined by the National Water Quality Guidelines.’
Health signs have been put up warning beach-goers not to swim.
On a positive note, the tidal pools at Kalk Bay and Dalebrook were reopened on Monday, 9 January.
