The Drakensberg Experience is forecasting snow in the Drakensberg in the coming days. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) also predicts that the north-western parts of the Eastern Cape and Beaufort West will welcome a good dusting of snow.
More damaging winds and disruptive rain are also expected for the Western Cape. ‘Flooding of roads and formal/informal settlements are possible, along with damage to property, infrastructure, loss of livelihood and livestock as well as disruption to essential services. Major disruption of traffic flow due to major roads being flooded or closed is likely,’ the SAWS said.
‘Some communities could temporarily not be accessible. Damage to formal/informal settlements and some structural damage is possible. Fallen trees may affect transport routes, properties and localised power and communication interruption. Flying debris may cause injury.’
Areas that may be affected are Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, Cape Point, George, Ceres, Paarl, Hermanus and Grabouw.
