Somalia has unveiled plans to construct a new airport. It will be situated in the Habaay area, 35km from Mogadishu.
According to Travel News, the airport is expected to be a large-scale international facility.
Somalia’s Ministry of Transport shared that the airport’s construction is a strategic decision. It is in response to a significant rise in outbound and inbound air traffic, as well as a growing demand for international travel which necessitates a larger airport capacity.
The airport will reportedly be named the New Mogadishu Airport.
Furthermore, a report by Nation media has cited the proposed New Mogadishu Airport as a potential game-changer. If successfully implemented, it could become a critical driver for economic growth, attracting investments and connecting Somalia to the rest of the world.
Currently, Somalia is part of the East African bloc, providing access to a number of regional markets including Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi.
