The World’s 50 Best Vineyards Awards 2023 announced their winners on 11 July, and coming in fourth was South Africa’s Creation. It was also named Africa’s overall winner.
According to Forbes, the list looks at the best of wine tourism globally, focusing on the ‘best travel experiences for wine lovers and not simply the quality of the wines.’ Food, unique accommodation, and wine tastings are all considered in the list of best vineyards.

Catena Zapata in Mendoza, South America took first place, Marqués de Riscal in Rioja, Europe took second, and Chilean Vineyard, VIK Chile came in third.
Creation was an easy choice for fourth place with its stunning holiday cottage built from eucalyptus timber and boasting views of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.
In 2002, Swiss winemaker JC Martin and his South African wife, Carolyn bought 40 hectares of virgin soil in Hemel-en-Aarde, perfect for delicious refined Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, and built an estate. Their first harvest happened in 2006 and ‘the couple’s combined viticultural pedigree, combined with a thoroughly modern approach to farming, winemaking, and hospitality, has turned Creation into an unmissable destination,’ reported World’s Best Vineyards.
