After six years of travelling in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Idaho Potato Commission, a giant prop potato has been converted into an Airbnb. The oversized spud, called the Big Idaho Potato Hotel, is located on a 162-hectare farm just outside of Boise, Idaho.
The official state vegetable of Idaho is the potato. The state is famous for their consistently high-quality potatoes. These are attributed to a combination of the rich volcanic soil, water from melting snow from the mountains, clean air, sunny days, and cool nights. Turning the giant potato into an Airbnb was a natural fit for the state.

The potato has been equipped with air conditioning, a bathroom, fireplace, bedroom, and lounge area. The room is big enough for two people.
It was revamped by Kirstie Wolfe, a tiny house developer, who was on the road with the potato for two years as an ambassador for the commission.
‘I had the perfect lot, and some day I was going to get that potato and turn it into something cool,’ Wolfe told the Idaho Statesman.

The Potato Hotel measures 8.5m long, just under 4m wide and stands 3.5m tall, and weighs an impressive six tonnes. A night in this fascinating hotel will set visitors back $247 (R3,555), all booking fees and taxes included.
