Strong storms in New York have caused severe flash flooding. Authorities have declared a state of emergency as subway systems, highways, and streets have been closed.
Governor Kathy Hochul said she is ‘declaring a state of emergency across New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley due to the extreme rainfall [they’re] seeing throughout the region.’
The BBC reported that the New Jersey town of Hoboken also experienced a state of emergency.
Several subway lines were suspended, La Guardia Airport’s Terminal A was closed due to flooding, and the National Guard was deployed following multiple road closures.
The National Weather Service data shows this is New York’s wettest September since 1882.
