Cathay Pacific has announced that their suspension of flights to South Africa has been extended and will resume on June 30.
Cathay Pacific called for a suspension of flights to South Africa in 2020 after lockdown regulations brought international travel to a standstill.
The anticipated wait for the airline to resume flights between Hong Kong and South Africa was scheduled for the end of March. Last week, a notification was sent out by the airline stating that flights on the Johannesburg route will only resume on June 30.
According to The South African, the carrier spokesperson told Travel News that “Given the severity of the dynamic situation, we have suspended flight operations from South Africa until June 30.”
While Cathay Pacific extends its suspension, Ethiopian Airlines partners with the African Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (Africa CDC) to introduce the new Trusted Travel Pass that will make continental travel safer and easier amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The travel pass will validate vaccination certificates and verify their sufficiency for the route they’re flying. The pass will share test and vaccination certificates with other airlines and authorities to facilitate travel. The introduction of this new pass aims to rule out any fraudulent documentation and make air travel more convenient.
According to the press release by Ethiopian Airlines, Mr. Getinet Tadesse, Chief Information Officer at Ethiopian Airlines said “We are pleased to have introduced a digital platform that will be pivotal in increasing the number of passengers while making air travel safer.”
