The world is full of creative minds and one Taiwannese airport came up with a genius- some might say silly- way to give travel enthusiasts that ‘going on a trip’ feeling.
Taipei Songshan Airport lets participants check in and receive boarding passes, go through security and immigration and then board an Airbus A330 of Taiwan’s largest carrier, China Airlines, where flight attendants will welcome them. That’s as far as they will let you go, however.
An incredible 7,000 travel-hungry residents applied to take part in the launch of the initiative on Thursday, July 2, and 60 winners were chosen at random, according to Reuters. Two more similar tours will be held.
The airport uses the opportunity to showcase renovations done during lockdown to encourage future travellers, as well as to show the public what health and safety protocols have been implemented for flyers’ peace of mind.
‘China Airlines has arranged personnel for airplane cleaning and disinfection to give instructions on pandemic prevention, so that the public can understand our aviation industry’s efforts in pandemic prevention,’ Ting Hsu, who works in Songshan Airport’s planning department, told CNN.
These passengers destined for nowhere were not served meals on board, but were treated to fine dining in some of the airport’s restaurants.
