If you’ve ever wanted to lounge on a houseboat on Lake Kariba, but also venture off-road to see the incredible wilderness, now’s your chance – on the Kapenta Fender Bender 4X4 challenge.
The Kapenta Fender Bender is a first-of-its-kind 4X4 challenge, in which teams of four take their off-road vehicle for four days along the banks of the lake, from Kariba to Binga.
How it works
It’s a 4X4 race in more ways than one, with a team of four and any four-wheel-drive vehicle. Two people drive the car along the route, while the other two cruise along Lake Kariba in a houseboat.
Teams meet at the end of the day, with fishing and sunset cruises concluding activities. The following day is a repeat of the first, but the teams switch, with the first day’s drivers getting to relax and recuperate aboard a Zambezi Cruise Safaris houseboat while their mates take to the off-road.
This gives participants the best of both worlds – experiencing Kariba in its full splendour on a houseboat and getting the chance to explore the bush. Drivers have to slog along very rough roads, which is a bit too exhausting for four non-stop days, making the swap a necessity.
When: 16-22 November 2022
How much?: $1 500 USD (+/- R25 000) per person. This includes accommodation, all meals, houseboat activities, and medical and mechanical backup.
