The Tourism Authority of Thailand has announced an update on rules for South Africans looking to travel to Thailand in the upcoming months.
Previously, South Africans had to apply for the Thailand Pass under the Sandbox programme or the Happy Quarantine programme, where tourists could select in which destination under the Sandbox programme they would complete their mandatory seven-day quarantine. Now fully vaccinated tourists can bypass the seven day quarantine and go to any part of Thailand given they take a negative Covid-19 test on the first and fifth day of their stay.
Travellers now only need to have one night booked in a SHA++ (test and go) hotel, including an airport transfer and a PCR test on arrival. In addition, the PCR test requirement on day five can be a self-ATK (Antigen self-testing kit) test and insurance requirements are now $20 000 (R308 832) as opposed to $50 000 (R772 080). In addition,
These rules will be in effect from 1 March 2022. They will also apply to those who have applied or obtained the TEST & GO Thailand Pass or Certificate of Entry with arrivals booked from this date.
All travellers entering the country by air, land, or sea must be fully vaccinated.
Some pre-arrival requirements include a Thailand Pass for arrival by land and air, or a Certificate of Entry for arrivals by water. A medical certificate with an RT-PCR lab result showing that Covid-19 is not detected issued within 72 hours of travelling is also essential. An insurance policy, proof of payment for a night of accommodation and a Covid-19 vaccination certificate is required.
