The last full moon of 2020 will be visible on December 30

The year 2020 has been packed with lunar events. From January right through to December there was some spectacular moon display to admire.

On August 19 there was a Black moon, the third new moon in a season with four new moons.

From super full moons to a penumbral lunar eclipse and even a blue moon (the second full moon in singular calendar month) in October, La Luna has been busy this year. And she’s not done yet.

The last full moon of 2020 will be visible in South Africa’s skies on December 30. Syzygy is the technical term for full moon and it means ‘of the Sun-Earth-Moon-system’ according to Time and Date.

The last full moon will be visible in South African skies from 5.28am.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the year’s last full moon will be visible on December 29 and is known as a cold or long night moon. Native Americans named the December full moon this, as it corresponds with the drop in temperature experienced this time of year.

It is also called the moon before Yule and the night moon.
