Australia-based aviation safety and product rating agency AirlineRatings.com has released its list of airlines for 2020. The last winner was Singapore Airlines, however, Air New Zealand took the top spot for 2020 nudging the South East Asian airline into second place.
However, Singapore Airlines did take the prestigious First Class award for its Suites product, which has six suites on the upper deck of the Airbus A380 configured like small hotel rooms.
Qatar Airways took the Best Catering and Best Business Class award once more
Judged by seven experienced judges, the awards take into account 12 main criteria including fleet age, passenger reviews, investment ratings, staff relations, product offerings and profitability.
Speaking about Air New Zealand, Geoffrey Thomas editor-in-chief of AirlineRatings.com said ‘In the past 10 years the airline has reduced its fuel burn and thus carbon emissions by almost 22%, ahead of the industry average,’ in an interview with CNN.
‘The airline has been a pioneer in a number of important industry initiatives such as biofuels and more efficient flight paths as well as a host of on ground improvements such as electric vehicles.’
‘In our analysis, Air New Zealand came out number one in most of our audit criteria, which is an outstanding performance when it is up against carriers with more resources and scale.
