While the Western Cape is known for its coastal and beachy treasures, such as Clifton, one secluded spot has made the Condé Nast best beach in the world list. This beach is the only South African contender among a merriment of international picks.

Die Plaat, situated in Walker Bay Nature Reserve in Hermanus, has been recognised as one of the world’s most sublime sandy sanctuaries.

With attractions including the historical Klipgat Cave and frequent southern right whale visits, it’s no surprise that this quaint location has finally gotten the recognition it deserves. Beyond the beach, Walker Bay Nature Reserve is known for its stellar outdoor activities, which include hiking trails and fishing spots.

Be sure to visit this spot in whale watching season in order to catch a glimpse of these majestic aquatic creatures in their element.
