Cape Town Alderman JP Smith shared images of the crowded coastline from New Years’ Day.
Thousands of visitors and locals spent their hot New Year’s Day enjoying the Cape Town beaches. The Alderman said that ‘maximum resources (were) deployed to mitigate beach safety, crowd control and traffic control.
‘Several routes along the coastline needed to be temporarily closed in order to ease congestion.’
He wrote that spending New Year’s Day on the beach is a tradition. He’s happy that beachfront businesses and local economies benefitted from the beach-goers, particularly after the pandemic.
The enforcement staff did a brilliant job of ensuring no severe incidents occurred.
Aderman JP Smith personally thanked the residents for ‘their consideration and patience during these chaotic periods over the season thus far.’
