Tony’s Chocolonely Chocolate Circus is opening in Amsterdam. Reminiscent of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory – sans Oompa Loompas – visitors are in for delicious experience.
Tony’s is the most popular chocolate brand in the Netherlands. The company was recently named the world’s Most Socially Responsible Chocolatier by CFI Magazine.
.@CFIMagazine named us Most Socially #Responsible Chocolatier Global 2020. We’re honoured to show the world chocolate can be made differently, but we can’t do it alone. Only together we’ll make 100% slave free the norm in #chocolate. https://t.co/lsMDO3YEmu#tonyschocolonely pic.twitter.com/nCw7ljb3oq

A rendering of the ‘candy complex’ has been released. The chocolate factory-cross-theme park will be situated in Zaandam, according to Time Out. This city is located 7 minutes outside of Amsterdam by train.
The 3-part development, which will take around 3 years to build and will cost over €100-million (over R1 billion) according to the Daily Mail. The factory will include a roller coaster that traverses through the main building and a walking tour of the manufacturing process.
The building will consist of three main areas: a red pavilion for the roller coaster, a factory space and a red-brick warehouse. Amsterdam-based architects, SeARCH, will be tasked with bringing the factory to life.
The company plans to open the factory by 2024 and hopes to welcome 500,000 visitors annually.

Tony’s is passionate about eradicating slave labour from the chocolate industry. In a statement published on their website, the company said: ‘We’ve been fighting for slave-free chocolate for the last 13 years. In that time we’ve been supported, encouraged, challenged and Tony’s has been eaten by many people all around the world. We’re aware of the challenges involved in trying to change the chocolate industry. But we are determined to keep going until we achieve our mission.’
