Patricia de Lille, the Minister of Tourism, has commented on the increase in tourist numbers despite the department implementing a budget cut. With an impressive spike of 48.9% since 2022, she states how the budget will be allocated to keep this momentum going.
She states, “One of the key areas of work for this financial year will be the implementation of our new Global Tourism Brand Campaign to showcase South Africa as a top-of-mind destination for all potential tourists in partnership with the private sector.”
Despite this growth, she also highlights the factors that could hinder the tourism industry, including tour operator licences and obtaining visas. Visa waiver implementations have been given to 132 countries travelling to South Africa to rectify this issue.
