Trevor Noah, host of the popular US The Daily Show (and one of South Africa’s favourite exports), recently interviewed 16-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.
Greta has sailed to the United States, from the UK, on an emission-free racing yacht to attend the UN Climate Action Summit in New York that will be held on 21 September (Youth UN Climate Action Summit) and 23 September.
After a typically commical quip about Greta’s Viking heritage, Trevor asked why she thinks there is a generational divide between young people, who seem far more concerned about the environment and older generations. She says that she thinks that the younger generations see climate change as more of a direct threat. ‘Others feel like, “I won’t be alive then anyway, so screw it”‘.
Greta also commented on the lack of awareness about climate change. ‘The awareness is not as it needs to be. People are still very unaware. It’s my experience.’
