A veld fire forced Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Airport to close one of its runways on Monday afternoon, 5 September.

Two non-operational aircraft were affected by the fire, which also spread over to the neighbouring Bonearo Park. ‘Our fire and rescue team has managed to contain and successfully extinguish the fire,’ airport spokesperson, Samukelo Khambule told News24.
‘They will continue to monitor the situation closely throughout the night. Two aircraft parked at Denel were affected by the fire, and no loss of life was reported.’
There were no injuries and no flights were disrupted.
