View the world through another’s window

Posted on 17 July 2020

A new app and website called WindowSwap allows you to travel the world by gazing out of strangers’ windows across the world.

WindowSwap was created to allow you to see the world from the inside looking out. From the Bavarian hillsides to the liveliness of Mexico City, it’s a novel way to see the world from wherever you are.

The site was created by husband and wife duo Sonali Ranjit and Vaishnav Balasubramaniam during lockdown, according to Archinet.

The two creatives were in lockdown in Singapore and asked a few friends to send the view from their windows. From this, their requests escalated to people sending in videos.

‘My husband, Vaishnav, and I created this little project to help beat our lockdown blues. Because, let’s face it, it’s going to be a while before we travel again and wake up to a new view outside our windows. So until then, why not voyeuristically travel by looking out of somebody else’s window for a while?’ Sonali told Archinet.

If you go onto the website, you can click through stills from people’s windows or videos with sounds such as the sirens of foreign ambulances or the soft blowing wind across a far away garden.

You can also submit your own beautiful view for others to enjoy.
