If you are one of those people who swears they would never go on a cruise, Virgin Voyage’s Scarlet Lady might just change your mind. Imagine an adult-only cruise with a drag queen brunch, a tattoo parlour, several stylish restaurants, and even a catamaran net to get closer to the sea.
Step right this way, bookings are now officially open for the 2,770-passenger Scarlet Lady which launches in 2020. In true Virgin style, Branson has left no stone unturned to bring patrons the most exciting, exclusive experience on the open water.
“I’ve dreamed of starting my own cruise line since I was in my twenties,” Branson said. “We have taken the time to think about every detail and craft an experience that brings the Virgin brand to life and disrupts the travel industry.”
This is the first of three planned cruise ships from Virgin Voyage and the maiden voyage will set sail on April 1, 2020.
Features on the ship include:
– A tattoo parlour for those wanting to get inked in true sailor fashion
– A Korean barbecue restaurant called Geonbae, where you can play Korean drinking games
– Pink Agave, inspired by Mexico City street food, will be a shared-plate experience served in the presence of a live DJ
– A food hall, to cater for various tastes, called the Galley will house a bakery, pastry shop, a burger joint, bento boxes, and a noodle bar
– All rooms on the ship have 43-inch flatscreen TVs, rain showers and hammocks. Most of the cabins have ocean terraces. Some of the top tier suites have walk-in rain showers and all-marble bathrooms
– A spa and an athletic club with bootcamp and boxing classes, a full basketball court, and a cold-pressed juice bar also feature on the ship
– A catamaran net at the back of the ship allows guests to get closer to the sea
– The Test Kitchen, a laboratory/eatery will host mixology classes and coffee workshops
The main selling point of the cruise is that it’s adults only, so no one under 18 is allowed. And, everything is inclusive, no fees for basic necessities like drinks and specialty restaurants. Guests can choose from more than 20 restaurants. There is also free wifi and fitness classes.
“There will be no stuffy formalities, boring buffets and no main dining rooms,” Branson said.
In 2020, the ship will set sail to the Caribbean from Miami for the 2020 season. Other destinations include Havana, Cuba. If you book now you can enter a competition to win a 4-night cruise to Havana in July 2020, to celebrate Branson’s birthday with him.
