The Moscow Metro is famous for its opulance. Tourists flock to see Metro in all its glory. From the old world Soviet design to hyper-modern architecture, each station is eye-catching and has a unique tale to tell.
Under the lockdown rules in Russia, the best way to explore the Metro is virtually. The Moscow Metro Career Guidance Centre recently announced that five virtual activities would be available per day.
These include guided tours, history discussions, architecture tours, visits to the control room, access to stations that have been closed for years and more. The tours will depart from the Metro’s official Instagram account. If you miss the train, it will remain live on their story for 24 hours.
So far, the tours have been in Russian but the Metro account announced on Thursday 2 April that tours will also be taken in English. The English tours will start with the ‘introduction to Moscow Metro History’ at 4PM (Moscow time/ 3 PM in South Africa) on 8 April.
The Moscow Metro is the sixth busiest rapid transit system in the world. It has been in operation since 1935 and has 236 working stations.
