American multinational retail corporation, Walmart, teamed up with tech giant Intel to put on a unique and mesmerising light show for Christmas. Best of all, not a single firework was used during the demonstration, meaning our four-legged friends could enjoy the show as well.
Instead of using conventional fireworks or other pyrotechnics to put on the light show, Walmart and Intel made use of a network of pre-programmed, similar to the demonstration in Spain Earlier this year. The only difference between the two drone shows is the fact that Walmart made use 1,000 Intel drones, while the drone show in Spain used 40 drones.
Each of the Intel drones serves as a pixel of light that paints the night sky with 3D animations. When separated, the drones appear as random lights in the night sky, however, when they come together in perfect unison they create a vivid and truly unforgettable story.
The first drone show took place on December 13 at the Phoenix Raceway, where spectators were treated to three-dimensional seasonal shapes and characters, like snowflakes, reindeer, snowmen and holiday presents. The next light show is scheduled to take place on December 18, with the final show scheduled for December 20.
The best way to spread Christmas cheer…is a drone light show 🎄

‘After a particularly tough year, we want to help families end the year looking up. We want customers and communities to enjoy a moment of rest, peace and hope,’ said William White, chief marketing officer at Walmart.
You can watch the entire 17-minute light show below. As an added treat, at around 5 minutes into the show, South African singer Miriam Makeba and her iconic Pata Pata anthem can be heard as one of the show’s many soundtracks.
