The South African Defence Force (SANDF) deployed a helicopter on 21 June to transport Eskom maintenance teams into the Citrusdal area to run assessments and try to restore their power supply.
Citrusdal lost power and was cut off from the rest of the Western Cape due to severe flooding. The N7 that leads into the town has been inaccessible to road users, and entering via helicopter is the safest option.
Once the assessments have been completed, the Eskom teams would be choppered into other areas of the Cederberg that need assistance
‘Food parcels and blankets will be loaded into the chopper to be sent to farming areas, where farmers have been cut off from leaving the areas due to road and bridge damage.’
