A wildfire that broke out on Michell’s pass near Ceres has been contained. Firefighting services were prompt to arrive on the scene, working tirelessly throughout the night.
The blaze broke out on Sunday, January 30, and was of such a scale that one eyewitness noted the fire will be burning for a while. Fortunately, the Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services confirmed on Monday, January 31, that the fire has been contained.
The fire started on the Wittels River side of the pass before rapidly spreading to the other side of the road above the pass. Fire crews from the Cape Winelands District and Witzenberg municipalities attended to the blaze, with support from aerial resources.
Ground teams will remain on the scene to monitor any flare-ups. Once again, thank you to the firefighters who worked tirelessly to contain the fire. Here are some images of firefighters attending to the scene.
