Rumeysa Gelgi, 25, had never previously been able to travel by plane due to her height. She stands an impressive 2.15m tall.
She was able to take to the skies thanks to Turkish Airlines, which removed six economy seats to accommodate her.
Gelgi was born in Turkey, and was named the world’s tallest woman by Guinness World Records in 2021. Her stature was caused by a bone overgrowth syndrome known as Weaver syndrome. Even as a child, she struggled to fit in plane seats.
‘A flawless journey from start to finish with @turkishairlines. I have so many people to thank’, said Gelgi via an Instagram post showing her journey with the airline staff.

She had to lie down on a stretcher during the 13-hour flight between Instanbul and San Francisco, where she is based.
‘From now on it will be a great honour and pleasure to fly to different parts of the world. A heartfelt thank you to each and every person who has been a part of my journey,’ said Gelgi.
