Are you wondering about this stunning country’s best lakes and dams? Here are a few dazzling dams that will make a splash in any season, offering water-based activities and breathtaking views of the surrounding natural beauty.

Bivane Dam

A tranquil aquatic treasure in Vryheid, Bivane Dam is a wonderful option to visit if you’re looking for an array of dam activities to enjoy. Historically, this structure was built in 2000 to provide a sustainable water supply for the area’s irrigation system.

This manufactured space has everything from bountiful bass fishing to riveting river rafting experiences. The surrounding area also has on-land outdoor activities, such as hiking and mountain biking trails to explore.

Loskop Dam

A marvel to witness in Middelburg in Mpumalanga, Loskop Dam is located in the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve and is a popular tourist attraction. While it’s not categorised as a space for swimming, you’ll experience a unique sight if you visit this busy watering hole.

The dam wall was constructed in the 1930s and has a variety of wildlife that visits these sparkling waters. Here, you can spot zebras, wildebeests, and white rhinos enjoying a drink at this large dam.

Vaal Dam

Known as one of the largest South African dams by area, the Vaal Dam is the ultimate water-filled wonder to visit if you’re looking for a typical dam experience. This massive structure offers a variety of water sports to enjoy, and you can even view sporting events throughout the year.

Something is always happening at this famous watering hole, from an annual yacht race to the exciting Bayshore jet ski race. If you want to add a sense of spine-chilling adventure to your dam experience, this Gauteng gem has been theorised to be home to a few graves in a small section of Vaal Dam.
