Successful international IATA Travel Pass trial lands first traveler in London

On the contactless travel app, IATA Travel Pass, passengers are able to create digital passports, receive tests and vaccination certificates, as well as share vaccination certificates with airlines and authorities to facilitate travel.

Passengers on the Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore to London created digital versions of their passports, they input their flight details so they could learn of any travel restrictions and requirements, and lastly received their verified results and confirmation that they had met all requirements.

According to IATA, Director General and CEO, Alexandre de Juniac mentioned that “the successful implementation of IATA Travel Pass in this trial with Singapore Airlines passengers demonstrates that technology can securely, conveniently and efficiently help travellers and governments to manage travel health credentials.”

The trial was a “big win” and a “milestone on the way to the app release in April,” he said.

Air New Zealand, Copa Airlines, Emirates, Etihad, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Gulf Air, Qantas, RwandAir and airBaltic have joined the trial run of IATA and more airlines will be introduced soon.
