Are you looking to optimise your limited space to get a few moments of shut-eye? Here are a various things you can do to ensure you have a chance of drifting off into a sleepy slumber.

Choose your seat selection strategically

Booking and selecting your seating is vital to ensure you choose a space that will allow you some comfort and the most minor interruptions. Much like the Goldilocks tale, you need to pick your seating that’s just right for you and your specific needs.

By choosing a window seat, you’ll have something to lean your head against while sleeping, but it might be problematic if you have a small bladder. Also, reserve a spot away from the restrooms, as this will allow you to avoid the abundance of foot traffic throughout the flight.

Stock up on sleep accessories

The best way to ensure a cat nap is in the cards is to purchase accessories that will allow a complete block out and add comfort to your immediate surroundings. Here are a few gadgets and gizmos to buy before your next flight:

  • Eye mask.
  • Noise-cancelling headphones.
  • Neck pillow.
  • Compression socks (to improve and promote healthy blood circulation).

Skip the alcohol

The last thing you want is to be utterly dehydrated on your flight, as this is a timeless recipe for headaches and restless sleep. An increase in alcohol might calm your nerves in the beginning. Still, it can create a feeling of anxiousness and stress from drinking. This will likely influence your ability to fall and stay asleep on your trip.

Elevate your legs

This is a great hack if you’re looking to maximise comfort in a limited space. It’s a quick and easy trick to implement by placing your carry-on luggage on the floor. By keeping your legs elevated on your luggage, you’ll be able to relieve some leg and back pain as it promotes blood circulation in the limbs.

Make sure your seatbelt is always visible

Nothing ruins a lovely nap quite like an unexpected wake-up call. As aircrafts experience various weather conditions in the air, the seatbelt sign will likely be switched on and off throughout the flight.

So, if you want to avoid being bothered by a stewardess checking to see if your seatbelt is on, be sure to secure it over your blanket and have it clicked in at all times.
