If you’re looking for a fun day out, with the possibility of a bit of wildlife-spotting thrown into the mix, Rietvlei is worth a visit. You can either pack your own picnic or, if time is on your side, bring along your tjop en sous and braai. The picnic spots can get busy though, so best arrive early.

Just a five-minute drive from the Haartbeespoort Dam, Van Gaalen boasts mountain-biking and running trails, a restaurant and beautiful picnic spots where you can relax and watch the kids play. The trails are perfect for exploring the area’s breathtaking scenery, and the restaurant is a great place to refuel after a day of adventure.
