Things for kids to do in Cape Town before going back to school

Posted on 10 January 2024 By Taylah Strauss

It’s almost back to school time, and since the holidays are nearly over, your kids probably have nothing to do. Now is the ideal time to squeeze in one last fun activity before school resumes, which is why we have compiled a list of child-friendly activities to do in Cape Town.

1. AJ’s Roller Rink

Especially on those rainy Cape Town days, an indoor roller skating rink is a fantastic way to keep the kids entertained this holiday. The entire family can enjoy the roller rink at AJ’s Roller Rink, which is decorated in neon disco style. Making sure that visitors have a great time is their top priority. Children must be accompanied by an adult if they are under the age of 14.

Ice skating is not only fun, but it is an excellent workout. It works nearly every muscle in the body and requires great focus and synchronised movements. Cape Town’s GrandWest casino not only has an ice skating rink for adults, it also has a mini rink for kids, where there is constant supervision. Outside of commercial hours, the rink also offers private ice skating lessons. A session typically lasts one to two hours, at which you can leave at any time.

If you do not have your own skates, they have skates available to rent, as well as lockers. Just remember extra thick woolly socks!

You also get shoes that are safe for the lanes and which protect your feet, though these are not compulsory. Ball too heavy? Not a problem, they offer a range of bowling balls, from small and light to big and heavy, just try your hand to figure out what works.

The Two Oceans Aquarium name is derived from the fact that the southern tip of the African continent is the meeting place between the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. Cape Town is in the ideal geographic position to showcase the marine life found in both oceans.

They offer numerous informative exhibitions and tours, such as a touch pool, a kelp forest exhibit and a penguin exhibit.
