Are you a bike lover? Trail’s End Bike Hotel offers a worthwhile adventure. It is also the perfect base to relax, have fun and explore all the Overberg adventures on offer.
Located in Grabouw in the Overberg district of the Western Cape, the hotel was built to mimic the cosy wooden lodges which can be found in the Swiss Alps. However, instead of offering skiing as the main activity, it comes with a South African twist. The hotel offers biking, trail running and hiking.
As per an article by The South African, the hotel was awarded a five-star rating in the Backpackers and Hostels category. It also exists as the first of its kind on the continent.
Additionally, it is home to the only bicycle museum in Africa. The Trail’s End Bicycle Museum consists of two galleries and was curated by Professor Mike Bruton.
The first gallery delves into the history of the bicycle. During your visit, you will travel down bicycle memory lane. Expect to journey from the earliest bicycle concept right up to the standard triangle frame which exists today.
The second gallery celebrates bicycles in Africa. You will explore the multi-faceted roles which bicycles play in South Africa and the continent at large.
