Many people have had to cancel their European summer escapes as a result of COVID-19 and global travel restrictions. This has, of course, left so many people feeling a little down.
For those absolutely itching to get a taste of what you could have been up to on this summer holiday, Airbnb has unveiled a new line-up of Online Experiences that transport guests to a different country. This not only allows people to meet others from around the world right now, but it also provides a much-needed income opportunity for Airbnb hosts.
Starting this week, Airbnb will expand its popular Online Experience collection with transformative Experiences that will transport people virtually through the first of its kind partnerships with the Olympics, Paralympics, notable Broadway Shows, a virtual Pride Week and more, all hosted on the platform.
These new Online Experiences will give guests access to never before seen content that can be enjoyed from the comfort of your home.
Online Mask-Making Experience in South Africa:
Airbnb recently launched its #GetBehindTheMask campaign in partnership with the Western Cape Government’s Maskathon and Afrika Tikkun. The initiative kicked off with an Online Experience on how to create face masks, alongside a South African call to action – still ongoing – to donate 50,000 cloth face masks.
South African Online Experience ‘Meet a Real Life Shark Scientist’ has already earned over R350,000 and received over 1400 bookings since it launched in April.
Broadway Musicals and TikTok performances From Home:
With theatres in the US closed, Airbnb will partner with a variety of Broadway shows to bring the magic of world-renowned musicals to guests’ homes. Members of the Broadway community will bring these productions to life through intimate Online Experiences, with some hosted through Airbnb’s Social Impact program. 100% of the proceeds for those Experiences will go directly to charities that are near and dear to Broadway artists.
TikTok and Airbnb will launch a series of Online Experiences with Tik Tok Creators including @bonnierzm, @themcfarlands, and Doctor @austinchiangmd representing TikTok’s best in the culinary, arts, dance and comedy digital world.
Global Pride:
In celebration of Pride, Airbnb will create a virtual Pride Week with Online Experiences led by LGBTQ+ hosts. In addition to this, IGLTA (International LGBTQ+ Travel Association), the IGLTA Foundation and its members will be offering Online Experiences that will continue celebrating the LGBTQ+ community all year round.
Launched in 2016, Airbnb Experiences are unique, memorable activities designed and hosted by locals that go beyond typical tours or workshops. They provide deep insights and immersion into the hosts’ passions and interests, and a different way to experience a destination. For more, visit airbnb.com/online-experiences.
