The charming and quaint town of Riebeek-Kasteel boasts an artsy edge. Situated one hour north of the Mother City, it is truly a gem with a unique architectural and artistic scene.

Bo-Kaap

The iconic and colourful neighbourhood of Bo-Kaap is rich in history, culture and art. The brightly painted houses will not fail to grab your attention. They are picture-perfect and carry a powerful Cape Malay influence from centuries ago. Moreover, the area is also home to several galleries, museums and some street artists that make the area an absolute must-visit.

Mpumalanga’s Ndebele Villages

Although it is mostly known for its breathtaking natural beauty, the Mpumalanga province is also rich in culture and art. Parts of it can be explored through the cultural villages found in the province. The Botshabelo Historical Village in Middelburg explores the artistic heritage of the Ndebele people. It showcases rich art traditions through beadwork, mural paintings and more. Additionally, the area of KwaNdebele also forms a part of Mpumalanga’s artistic and cultural heartland. Expect colourful murals with vivid geometric designs based on triangular and rectangular shapes.
