KwaZulu-Natal offers a vibrant mixture of history, culture and impressive natural beauty.

From rolling hills to worthwhile entertainment, and even a rich and interesting history, different parts of the destination have a slice of happiness in store for different travellers. 

Across the province, there are a number of attractions worth exploring. Here are just a few of them:

Nelson Mandela Capture Site

Keen to delve into a bit of history? The Nelson Mandela Capture Site holds enormous significance for South Africa as a whole. It is where struggle icon Nelson Mandela was arrested on the 5th of August 1962.

The site is operated by the Apartheid Museum and serves to commemorate Mandela’s arrest, as well as his life spent behind bars. A visit to the Nelson Mandela Capture Site is interesting and insightful, providing necessary information and insight into South Africa’s past.

Durban Botanic Gardens

KwaZulu-Natal is also a paradise for nature lovers as it boasts a number of natural attractions. Established in 1849, the Durban Botanic Gardens is a 15-hectare oasis of plant diversity.

The attraction is Africa’s oldest surviving botanic garden, and it promotes biodiversity and environmentalism. You can enjoy refreshing scenic walks and guided tours as you learn more about the history of the attraction, as well as the interesting plant life it boasts.

iSimangaliso Wetland Park

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park is one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most treasured natural wonders. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, and is home to an impressive variety of flora and fauna. With five major ecosystems, the Park boasts a wealth of biodiversity.

The word ‘iSimangaliso’ means ‘miracle’ or ‘wonder’, and the area’s beauty and offering truly live up to its name. Prepare to immerse yourself in the refreshing beauty of grasslands, forests, wetlands, beaches and mangroves. There are also a number of activities to enjoy, including safaris where you can spot species such as hippos, zebras, elephants, crocodiles and rhinos. iSimangaliso is also great for birding and horse-riding.

When exploring the KwaZulu-Natal province, uShaka Marine World is undoubtedly a must-visit. It is one of those places that leave the entire family entertained.

Explore Africa’s largest aquarium as you view and learn more about some of the weirdest, most fascinating and wonderful underwater creatures. There are also a number of activities and entertainment opportunities to partake in. Not to be missed is the underwater wonderland and theme park which has thrilling water slides, seal stadiums, as well as a dive center.
